Only one incumbent will be running for the upcoming November general election, as eight candidates will vie for one of the four vacant seats on the Cherry Hill Township council.
Serving out the rest of their time and not running for re-election are Council President Steve Polansky, Councilman Frank Falcone, and Councilwoman Joyce Kurzweil.
The partisan November election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters will have the chance to pick four of the eight candidates who have registered to run for the township council.
Councilman David Fleisher is the only incumbent candidate who registered to run for re-election.
Fleisher was elected to fill out the remaining time on the council when Councilwoman Shelly Adler resigned last year due to personal commitments.
He had also previously served on the council before his current term.
Jim Bannar, a Cherry Hill firefighter; Jacquelene Silver, a seventh grade teacher; and Susan Shin Angulo, who serves on the township zoning board and human relations council, fill out the Democratic ticket for the township.
Susan Badaracco, a community planner and former small business owner/manager; Phil Guerrieri, an owner and president of a specialty construction services business; Dan Loveland, a regional engineer for an electric utility; and Nancy O’Dowd, an advanced practice nurse, fill out the Republic ticket for the township.
All eight of the candidates will appear on the ballot for the general election in November. All of the candidates have been invited to a “Meet the Candidates,” event sponsored by the Barclay Area Civic Association.
The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Public Library.
“We and our co-sponsoring civic associations are pleased to offer our members an opportunity to meet and hear directly from the candidates so they can make an informed decision on Election Day, November 3, 2009, “said Helen Kushner, BACA president, in a press release. “We hope our members and many Cherry Hill voters will come with good questions.”
The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
