Get out and vote Nov. 6
By ROBERT LINNEHAN
Cherry Hill Sun
11/1/2007

Registered voters will be asked to cast their votes at one of several polling places in the township for the 2007 general elections on Nov. 6, with polls opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m.

Residents will be asked to vote for several candidates at the township level for the 2007 elections.

Cherry Hill Township Democrat incumbent Mayor Bernie Platt is challenged by Republican newcomer Philip J. Guerrieri.

Incumbent Democrat Councilmen N. John Amato and Dennis Garbowski will run with Democrat Sara Lipsett against Republican Nancy B. Ryan, Joseph Achacoso and Christopher Hammerquist for three open seats on the Cherry Hill Township Council.

On the state level, residents will be asked to vote for a member of the state Senate, two General Assembly officials and two members of the board of chosen freeholders.

Incumbent Democrat John H. Adler will run against Republican Joseph A. Adolf for one open seat in the state Senate.

Incumbent Democrats Louis D. Greenwald and Pamela R. Lampitt will run against Republicans JoAnn R. Gurenlian and Bradley L. Mattson for two open seats in the General Assembly.

Incumbent Democrats Edward T. McDonnell and Carmen G. Rodgriguez will run against Republicans Alice J. Wood and Gene Mignogna for two open seats on the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Residents are also asked to vote on four state questions:

The first question asks voters if they approve of an amendment that an amount equal to the annual revenue derived from a tax rate of 1 percent imposed under the New Jersey Sales and Use Tax Act shall be annually dedicated in a special account in the Property Tax Relief Fund and annually appropriated for property tax reform.

The second question asks voters if they approve of an act that would authorize the sale of $450 million in state general obligation bonds to provide grants for stem cell, scientific and medical research.

The third question asks voters if they approve of an act that would authorize $200 million in funding for Green Acres, farmland, Blue Acres and historic preservation project through the sale of state general obligation bonds. The Green Acres program preserves open space, including parks, fish and wildlife habitats, flood prone or affected areas, and lands that protect water supplies.

The fourth question asks voters if they approve of an amendment concerning the denial of the right to vote that would delete the phrase “idiot or insane person” and replacing it with “person who has been adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction to lack the capacity to understand the act of voting” in describing those persons who shall be denied the right to vote.
