Dr. David Campbell, superintendent of the Cherry Hill School District, announced last week that the 2010-11 school year will be his final year as superintendent. His final day in the district is June 30, 2011.
The administrator has served as Cherry Hill’s superintendent since 2006. His contract was extended last year through 2011.
The Cherry Hill Board of Education scheduled a retreat last week to discuss the best criteria and process to find new superintendent. Previous to Campbell, the board hired a search firm to help find the next superintendent, Public Information Officer Susan Bastnagel said.
“The board is pleased to have time to conduct the search for a new superintendent, while the important work of the district continues under Dr. Campbell’s leadership in 2010-11,” said Seth Klukoff, BOE president.
Klukoff said the board met at a retreat last week and discussed some general parameters for the search. More details will be available at the next board action meeting on July 27 at the Malberg Administration Building.
The board is looking forward to working with Campbell during the next school year, he said.
“I think Dr. Campbell, in the time he’s been in the district, has done an admirable job in significantly improving the district’s operations.
“He has made significant progress in the implementation of the educational blueprint,” Klukoff said. “The board looks forward to working with Dr. Campbell in the next school year as there are many important things to be done.”
The criteria for a new superintendent was to be discussed at the retreat, Bastnagel said. The public, as always, will be involved in the process and will have a say in the new hire, she said.
“The board members are just looking to begin the process and set the parameters for the search,” she said.
“The public is always very much involved in a superintendent process and has been involved in the in the past. “
A “public suggestion” link will be created on the district’s Web site, Bastnagel said. Interested residents will be able to submit what criteria they think the next superintendent should possess.
Previous to his superintendent position in Cherry Hill, Campbell had been the superintendent of the Upper Moreland School District in Montgomery, Pennsylvania, since July 2001. He worked in public education in Pennsylvania and Delaware for 38 years, and with higher education in Massachusetts.
Campbell isn’t the only administrator leaving the district next year. Assistant Superintendent James Gallagher earlier announced his intention to retire in January.
