Superintendent search continues
By ERIK SOKOLOWSKI

Board of Education President Seth Klukoff announced that the Board has selected seven candidates to interview for the position of superintendent of schools. The Board conducted interviews in executive session this week.

“The search is going very well,” Klukoff said, “and we’re very happy with pool thus far. The candidates we’re talking to will bring a wealth of experience (to the district).”

The district did not release the names of the candidates.

He added that the candidates come from areas that are demographically and geographically like Cherry Hill, and they will be equipped to meet the challenges facing Cherry Hill.

Of the seven candidates, six are from New Jersey and one is from Pennsylvania. All are superintendents or assistant superintendents.

These candidates were selected from a pool of 19 applicants of which:

- Ten are superintendents or assistant superintendents.
- Seven are principals/vice principals/assistant principals.
- Two are from other organizations (one from private industry and one from an education consulting firm).
- Thirteen have earned doctorates.
- Eighteen are from New Jersey and one is from Pennsylvania.
- Of the 18 candidates from New Jersey, eight are from North Jersey and 10 are from South Jersey.

Klukoff said that the Board would conduct a second round of interviews in early February, currently scheduled for Feb. 1 to 3.

Finalists selected from the second round of interviews will then participate in meetings with various district and community stakeholder groups later this year.

The selection process began last fall with community input sessions in which participants shared their views on the strengths, background, training, and experience that the new superintendent should possess, as well as the concerns, ongoing issues, and future initiatives that the new superintendent will face in our district.

Input from these focus group sessions was used to shape a variety of candidate review documents and interview questions that will be used throughout the process.

Assisting the Board with the Superintendent search process is Gwen Thornton of New Jersey School Boards Association.
