Council proclamation commends long-time EMS employee for service to community

Mayor Bernie Platt and the members of the Cherry Hill Township Council issued a proclamation to long-time Cherry Hill Emergency Medical Service employee Lynne Weinstein at the Nov. 26 council meeting. Weinstein is retiring after 28 years of service to the township.

Weinstein, an emergency medical technician since April 1979, attended the council meeting with a number of family members and graciously accepted the proclamation.

“This is long overdue, but it’s my pleasure to do this for Lynne,” Platt said. “Lynne and I go way back. This is a personal pleasure tonight for me to offer this proclamation to someone who has worked in the township for the past 28 years.”

The proclamation commends Weinstein for her service to the township and for her volunteer efforts in other facets of emergency service in Cherry Hill.

Weinstein regularly volunteered for standby detail at hundreds of Cherry Hill High School sports and public events, read Platt from the proclamation, and constantly displayed a very visible positive public image, encouraging children to tour the ambulance and see the equipment to minimize their fear of ambulance service.

Weinstein also served as a community cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instructor for the majority of her 28 years of service.

She also served for many years as the board secretary on the Cherry Hill Emergency Services board of directors, helping to raise awareness of issues affecting Emergency Medical Technicians in Cherry Hill.

“She was on so many of the ambulance calls in our township and intervened in the lives of so many people over the years,” Platt said. “She always strove to raise enough money to make sure the ambulance squads had the proper equipment and members to properly serve our community.”

Each member of the council also thanked Weinstein for her work in the community.

Council Vice President John N. Amato praised Weinstein for her dedication to providing emergency services to the people of Cherry Hill and also commended her character.

“We all thank you, Lynne. You will be missed greatly in the township of Cherry Hill,” he said. “It’s people like you this township will always continue to miss. I congratulate you once again on everything you’ve done for Cherry Hill.”

Weinstein thanked Platt, members of council and everyone at the council meeting for the proclamation.

In other council news:

- Recent Republican mayoral candidate Philip J. Guerrieri addressed members of council and congratulated them on their victories in the Nov. 5 General Elections.

Despite his loss to Platt in the general elections, Guerrieri asked the current administration keep an open mind to outside ideas, specifically in regard to their plan for Route 70.

He also warned that the low voter turnout in the township was something that needed to be addressed in the future by Platt and his council.

“It was a very low voter turnout in this year’s election,” he said. “It’s not good for the democratic process, whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat.”

- The members of council unanimously approved an amendment to an existing ordinance prohibiting the stopping or standing of a vehicle on Graydon and Point View avenues to include the entire length of each street on both sides from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

An on-site inspection of the street was conducted by the traffic unit, and it was determined that vehicles parking along both sides of the street obstruct the passage of two-way vehicle traffic, prevent the movement of fire and EMS vehicles and reduce visibility for drivers cause an unsafe situation.

A township resident brought up the conditions at the Nov. 26 council meeting. Council President Frank Falcone said that if the ordinance were passed on final adoption, the resident would see an improvement in the safety of the street.
