This property was originally part of a land grant to Samuel Coles from William Penn in 1635. St. Mary's Church was built on these grounds in 1752. However, it was destroyed by fire on November 7th, 1899. The gatehouse, which was once used for church services, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The earliest reported burial was in the cemetery was in 1684.
